Our focal policy themes:
1. Engaging grassroots voices
When people have influence over decisions that affect their lives, support and sustainable impact emerge. That is why we listen carefully to and work in equal partnership with local communities; we also strengthen voices that are not sufficiently heard. Through our networks, we amplify voices from the Global South in the Global North. We also represent our Dutch constituency in The Hague and Brussels.
2. Enabling dignified livelihoods
A dignified livelihood means more than a living income: it involves resilience, freedom of choice, and prospects. Together with partners, we support communities under pressure from climate change and forced migration, and we work towards meaningful employment, sustainable agriculture, and fair economic systems. In the Netherlands, we encourage citizens, businesses, and governments to act justly toward people in the Global South.
3. Responsible digitalisation
Technology can connect or divide. Woord en Daad sees digitalization as a means for sustainable development, provided it is fair and inclusive. Together with partners, we develop practical digital solutions, ranging from distance education to market access, and advocate for responsible data use and strong digital skills. In the Netherlands, we also use technology to foster connection while remaining alert to ethical issues surrounding digitalization.
