The baseline study will offer valuable insights to guide the planning and execution of upcoming activities. It targets PPE centers, households, and both local and district authorities:
- At the PPE center level, we aim to gather accurate data on the number of classroom blocks, current enrollment figures, available teaching and learning materials, and the challenges faced in operating these centers. We will also assess the availability and condition of playgrounds, as well as the overall safety of the centers for children.
- At the household level, the focus will be on understanding parents’ and caregivers’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding PPE enrollment. We will also collect their recommendations for improving PPE services in the district.
- At the chiefdom and district levels, we will evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of local and district authorities toward PPE. This includes identifying current challenges and exploring ways to enhance both the infrastructure and the quality of learning in PPE centers.
Crucial step
The findings from this study will inform nearly all subsequent project activities. They will also help us understand the general perceptions and attitudes of education and chiefdom authorities toward PPE, which will shape our engagement strategies with these stakeholders. This baseline study is a crucial step in our journey to improve Pre-Primary Education in Karene District, Sierra Leone. We eagerly await the results.
