We gratefully look back on the trip to Guatemala and the GZET-daagse last January. INCE visited Driestar Educatief and a lot of students were invited to get involved, for example by sharing their prayer points, writing a card for the people in Guatemala and buying products for charity. After the trip the students who went on the trip shared their experiences in a photo exhibition.
The trip made a big impression on them. One of the students, Joël Baas, reflected on our trip to Guatemala:
Last January we visited Guatemala with a group of Driestar student to see the work of Woord en Daad and the impact of education in this country. We visited three different schools in different regions. All the schools shared the same message: ‘School is for the kids and for the youth a place where the vicious circle of poverty and lack of education can be broken.’ We have seen how education ensures a better future for the children. Through education the kids have hope for the future, of having a good job and the possibility to provide for their family.
The teachers’ love for the children made an impact on me. It was amazing to see that the teachers gave all that they have to the children although the circumstances were not that easy. They share the gospel not only by reading and talking about it, but, maybe more important, by showing Gods love in their doing.
