Faced with this reality, communities are concerned, and many teachers ask themselves the same questions: How can I adapt my practices? How can I ensure no learner is left behind? How can I develop my skills despite sometimes limited training opportunities?
Practical tool
The Teacher Self-Study Guide (GAE) was designed to address these challenges; it is a practical, accessible tool deeply rooted in the educational realities of Benin. The journey began in 2023 with the creation of the PLE-BENIN Consortium, an initiative led by Woord en Daad and its local partners: DEDRAS, CIPCRE, CBOEPT, BUPDOS, INFRE & UPAO. Early on, the effective collaboration between this consortium, the local government, and other key system stakeholders led to a revision of the existing manual, broadening its scope to serve as a foundation for values-based education. Today, we are very close to having a professional self-development guide available to all teachers—and to each individual teacher.

More than just a manual, it represents a genuine professional development journey that allows each teacher to learn at their own pace, experiment, reflect on their pedagogical practices, and tangibly improve their classroom work. This tool offers a pathway comprising ten intensive yet rich and fluid modules to support teachers in understanding inclusive education, pedagogical differentiation, learning adaptations, inclusive assessment, collaboration with families, and supporting learners with specific needs. Case studies, hands-on activities, self-assessment tools, and real-world examples enable easy, immediate, and practical implementation in the classroom.
